McLaren denies plans to switch engine suppliers
For 15 years, was the McLaren F1 of choice for Mercedes-Benz, enjoying a level close to factory support and cooperation by Deutsch carmaker. But, as you may recall, Daimler bought his team three seasons ago, the dress began as British American Racing, Honda became the first branch as Brawn GP, ??which rebranded Mercedes Grand Prix under his direction and now renamed last Mercedes AMG Petronas. And since then, has had to deflect speculation that McLaren was looking for a new engine supplier.
Back in November, those voices, a little ‘ironically, centered around Honda, the company that once owned the team now owned by Mercedes-Benz and McLaren, who was once most successful engine supplier. The Woking-based outfit sunk those voices at the time, and now had to deny the other, set this time involving PURE.
The new engine supplier established by the former manager and Jacques Villeneuve BAR-Honda team principal Craig Pollock (with very good technical know-how of the former Peugeot, Renault and Ferrari engineers) is working to design a new engine to be used from 2014 when the new turbocharged V6 engine regulations will come into force. You can not say which team will power PURE at that point, but one thing McLaren is adamant about is that they will not be.
